About Reiki
Reiki is a composite word made up of two terms: Rei and Ki. Rei= spirit, supernatural, soul, divine and Ki= energy, life force. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that channels the life force energy (Ki, Prana, Chi or God's energy). Reiki is not a cult or a religion; in fact, reiki is non-denominational and can be practiced by anybody that feels the call to receive an attunement. To be a reiki practicioner you do not need to study difficult books, to have a specific education, degree or culture; what you need is a reiki teacher, experience reiki as a client at least once, and a desire to learn and practice reiki.
Reiki is a very personal experience and everyone encounters different sensations, emotions or none at all. We say that reiki has its own intelligence and gives each one of us (client or practicioner) exactly what we need at the time we need it. Since we all are different in so many ways; we all perceive it in a different way. Some will describe it as energizing, relaxing, cold, tingling, hot, warm, burning, and many other descriptors and all of them will be right because all of us perceive in different ways.
A reiki attunement opens your energy centers or chakras, including the chakras on the palms of the hands to allow the energy to flow. Although the reiki energy is transmitted most of the time thought the hands; other parts of the body can be used, such as, feet or eyes. It can also be transmitted through intention and breath. Once you are attuned to reiki, you are always attuned even if you don't practice it.
As a practicioner reiki becomes part of your life; it is recommended a self reiki session every day to maintan the chakras open. It becomes so natural to use reiki that it starts flowing by itself; I had experiences where a client needed reiki and while I slept I could feel the reiki energy flowing. I usually experience the flow of energy while I pray or meditate; sometimes I can feel it while I type my hubs.
As I told you earlier, reiki is a personal experience even for us practicioners. Some practicioners use prayers from their religion, some use it as a very spiritual practice, and some use it as a healing tool without hints of spirituality or religion. There are as well many schools of reiki, such as, Karuna Reiki, Shamballa, Tera Mai, Angelic Reiki, White Light Reiki, Fire Reiki, and many other branches with different symbols and different elements involved. Which branch of reiki is the best? The kind of reiki that calls you, there is a flavor for each personality.
In reiki, one of the tools we use the most is intention. The client sets an intention for the session and the practicioner declares that intention, but tries to detach from results. We do the session for the highest and greatest good of the client; sometimes the client expects something that is not the best for them, at least not at the time. As with wishes, the intention must be pure without malice to others. As an example, the saying: "God I don't ask you to be slim; just make my friends fatter" probably won't work with reiki, because you are asking that harm be done to others.
Another great tool used by reiki practicioners is meditation. We use meditation in our attunements and in my humble opinion, getting a reiki session feels like a meditation; at least I experience almost the same sensations. When a practicioner gives reiki; it's getting reiki as well. Meditation help us contact our spiritual guides, ground ourselves and look inside for our higher purpose; it helps us take decisions and detach ourselves from the daily life stress.
Another great tool used by reiki practicioners is ritual; every practicioner has its own. Mine is drawing all the symbols on my hands before a session, thanking God for the gift of life, asking God for guidance and help for the greatest benefit of the person. At the end, thank the guides for their presence, ground the person, and speak with the client about the experience.
These are just some of the elements used by a reiki practicioner. My expectation from this hub was to give you a quick look into why some of us love reiki and maybe interest you in getting a reiki session. Who knows? Maybe it will call you too. There are many other topics interesting about reiki, but those I will tell you in another hub. God Bless you on your sacred path!
